stsmithva | Simon Parr's Auctions seems to be a major British auction house, but I have seen a LOT of questionable astronaut autographs, usually supposedly of Armstrong, in the last couple of years. This one is one of the most ridiculous examples I've seen. We're talking sub-eBay-seller-with-0-feedback. I can picture someone saying, "Man, the 'N' is really hard. Ahhhh, 'X' is close enough." |
Jonnyed | Ha! I love the estimated going price of 400 to 600 GBP. Must be a hell of nice frame that the forgery is in. |
lspooz | And the photo of Gene Cernan/Apollo 17 just makes it that much better...
|
randy | That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen! |
ColinBurgess | And whatever happened to "one giant leap"? |
TLIGuy | Being a British auction house it's possible that is Keith Richards from the Rolling Stones autograph. |

Hardly. Look for the address given on Google Street View and you'll see that it looks like a private residence. |
lspooz | Several of the other astronaut signatures also appear highly suspect (especially the Neil and Buzz bootprint). |
Mike Dixon | Yep, that's a heap of garbage as well. |

I can believe it operates out of someone's house. They don't seem to even have their own website, instead working through a website used by other auctioneers (who do also have their own websites). But they've had 17 auctions in the last two years, each with hundreds of lots, many selling for thousands of pounds each. That's why I'm surprised to see such terrible forgeries month after month. Like I said, they're often the kind you'd expect to see from a fly-by-night eBay seller. Although I notice that if you do a Google search for Simon Parr auctions, three of the first six results are warnings about forgeries. |
JoKepler | Hall of Shame candidate... clearly. |
simon parr | Regarding the space autographs. Buzz Aldrin comes with an AFTAL coa from Gary King, and the Neil Armstrong we had listed comes with a PSA/DNA, certified genuine (IN THEIR OPINIONS). Also it is a registered business address. Hope that puts people's minds at rest. |
Robert Pearlman | For reference, PSA/DNA does not have a solid record when it comes to certifying astronaut and space-related autographs. The inclusion of their COA does not increase confidence in this case. |
Lou Chinal | I've been a space junkie since 1960. I've never heard of him. |
moonnut | Bad items = Bad auction house. Simple as that. |
